Mash is a wet feed made from boiling a mixture of grains (oats, barley, maize) and cereal products (wheat bran), linseed and other variable ingredients (salt, chaffed hay, molasses). Additional calcium carbonate is required to make the Ca/P ratio up to 1.5. The quantity given should be adapted for each animal. Mash is largely used in stables, however it is rarely included in recommended feeding protocols, which would render its use more sure and suitable. Little scientific evidence is available. In this article, suggestions received have been detailed, and concrete examples are given on how to provide a well-balanced mash and recommendations for usage are clarified.
