A 4-year-old Holstein cow was suspected of traumatic reticuloperitonitis after presenting with chronic weight loss after calving [France, date not given]. Tachycardia associated with an engorgement of the jugular veins and retrograde jugular pulse evoked a heart condition, although auscultation of the heart did not show any evidence of other abnormalities (absence of heart murmur and fluid noise and audible heart). Echocardiography alone could establish a diagnosis of tricuspid valve endocarditis, which was confirmed by autopsy.
