Information on their behaviour is "hard to find, as it is widely scattered and difficult to locate". The author of this book attempts to bring together most of the information, and has been partially successful. A generous bibliography will certainly be helpful to those who wish to study feline ethology. Some of the text, too, contains interesting information, but it is marred by pretentious and irritating jargon: the "external visual system", for example, needs "postnatal time" for development; "Maturation involves changes in ingestive behaviour" is another example. However, the true lover of cats will overlook the bad writing because the book contains much which cannot easily be found elsewhere. It is unlikely to appeal to veterinary surgeons but should be popular with cat-lovers throughout the world.
