The author, a large animal practitioner from South Wurttemberg in West Germany, has already compiled an atlas of acupuncture for horses ("Atlas der Akupunktur des Pferdes") published in 1976 by the same firm as the present volume. The first six pages of text contain short summaries of the mode of action of acupuncture, its use as a form of therapy, acupuncture points, needle types and needling. The following 38 pages give photographs, diagnosis, location, indications and needle depth and direction of 156 acupuncture points. The numbering of the points differs from the Chinese system used in the "Manuel d'acupuncture veterinaire" by M. Rubin (1976; VB 46, abst. 7381) and "Veterinary acupuncture" of A.M. Klide & S.H. Kung (1977; VB 48, abst. 4721). Brief descriptions are given of the treatment of collapse, hip joint sprain, nymphomania, indigestion, uterine prolapse and dystocia. There is an index to the indications given for the acupuncture points, and also included is a short bibliography. The top half of each page is in German, with an English translation below this.
